Son Ferriol Primary Healthcare Centre

Son Ferriol Primary Healthcare Centre

Public bidding

Palma de Mallorca

2017

The project proposes the construction of a new health center based on criteria of efficiency, functional clarity and a strong public vocation. The proposal is based on a modular structural system that optimizes resources, execution and maintenance times, resulting in a precise, contained and recognizable architecture.

The building is articulated through two complementary readings. The main volume rises above the first floor, generating the sensation of a floating body visually supported by a vertical garden of low water consumption climbing species. This vegetation layer acts as a climatic and visual filter, providing privacy to the lower care spaces and establishing a friendlier transition with the urban environment.

The upper volume is resolved by means of a translucent polypropylene envelope that filters natural light and provides a diffuse and homogeneous illumination inside the consultation rooms. The facade is modulated by a series of circular openings that, in addition to ordering the rhythm of the elevation, build a symbolic gesture: the inscription of the name Son Ferriol written in Braille, integrated into the skin of the building itself.

The result is a sober and contemporary healthcare facility, where technology, local references, and environmental control come together to address both functional requirements and the representative role of public architecture.
