NEMO Foundation – Neurorehabilitation centre and headquarters
Palma de Mallorca
Completed in 2016
The project involves the renovation and unification of a group of existing premises to house the neurorehabilitation centre and headquarters of the NEMO Foundation. La intervención trasciende el mero acondicionamiento funcional para convertirse en una arquitectura al servicio de una misión vital: acompañar el neurodesarrollo infantil desde una mirada positiva, activa y profundamente humana.
The design is based on a different understanding of therapeutic space. Circulation, proportions, light and materials are conceived from a refined sensory perspective, adapted to children and young people who relate to their environment in non-conventional ways. Architecture thus becomes an integral part of the therapeutic process: calm, legible, free of excess, yet subtly stimulating.
Interior spaces are organised clearly and flexibly, allowing for different rhythms of use and supporting both individual therapy and family involvement. A neutral colour palette is combined with the foundation’s own graphic identity, creating an atmosphere that is warm, recognisable and far from institutional.
Towards the city, the intervention maintains a discreet yet clear presence within the urban fabric, reinforcing the idea of an open, approachable place connected to the community. The result is an architectural ensemble that does not impose, but accompanies; that does not correct, but trusts in the potential of each individual, fully aligned with NEMO’s founding values.
