Parco Regionale dell'Appia Antica

2015 - Academic project

Strategic study on the regeneration of rural landscapes through a circular economy model linked to sustainable tourism.

The project proposes the activation of the territory through a network of green corridors – for pedestrians, bicycles and horses – that run through the landscape with minimal impact, connecting points of interest and reactivating traditional agricultural uses. Based on a territorial analysis, active agricultural hotspots and particularly degraded areas are identified, defining strategic points where to intervene to regenerate the landscape and rebalance its functioning.

As a case study, we analyze the implementation in the Parco dell’Appia Antica (Rome), where a system of light and reversible interventions is proposed. One of these nodes is developed in detail, integrating scattered bungalows, a visitor center and a 0 km restaurant, all of them inserted in the agricultural environment and conceived from self-sufficiency and low environmental footprint.

The project understands the landscape as a productive, cultural and ecological infrastructure, where tourism, agriculture and territory are balanced within a system capable of long-term regeneration.
